▬▬▬∘◦ ☆ ◦∘▬▬▬BY THE TIME the clean up was done with, Jaylene's cheeks were a bright red from the burning sun that had kept her warm through the two hours she'd spent picking up trash. Surprisingly, everything had gone pretty well. She was finally able to have normal conversations with some of her old friends. It was like nothing had changed since she left the island.
Now, she was driving back home with Andrea sat in the passenger seat, who was busy entertaining herself with her phone that was tightly gripped in her grasp.
"Does Jason think I hate him?" Jaylene couldn't help but question, briefly glancing towards the brunette sat in the passenger seat before turning her attention back towards the road. "I've been a complete bitch to him since I've been back, but it was only because I wasn't ready to involve myself in a relationship so soon. And because he's been so judgmental towards my actions recently."
Andrea sighed, shaking her head. "Look, Jason is the same exact egotistical asshole he's always been." She elaborated, knowing how harsh her words sounded. "He may be my brother and everything, but he's a douche. I highly doubt that he gives a single shit about your feelings. He loves the idea of you and him being together. He wants you back to have some sort of control over you. Mainly because you're apparently hanging around pogues now? John B. to be more specific."
Jaylene's eyebrows furrowed in confusion as she took a sharp turn, entering the neighborhood where the two girls lived. "Does he think I have something going on with John B.? Because I don't."
The brunette sat adjacent to her snorted in response. "Yeah? Where were you at last night? Your dad was going batshit crazy because you didn't come home. He almost sent out a search party for you."
"So I befriend the guy and Jason automatically assumes that I have something going on with him? You've gotta be kidding me." Jaylene scoffed, gripping the steering wheel as her knuckles turned white. "My mom was friends with John Routledge. I mean, the guy was like a second father to me after she died. His son and I were bound to become friends at some point."
"Hey, relax. I'm not judging you at all." Andrea shrugged, preparing herself to step out of the car as they neared the large homes. "You're probably better off with him than with my pathetic brother."
"I just got back, Andrea. I'm not planning on romantically involving myself with anyone these next couple weeks." Jaylene sighed, parking her car on the curb and unlocking the doors. "Maybe I'll hook up with someone every now and then, but I'm not getting into a relationship anytime soon."
Andrea playfully rolled her eyes as she gripped the door handle to open the door. "I think you should take it into consideration. This summer's gonna be a memorable one, I can feel it in the pit of my stomach."
"Bye andrea." Jaylene waved the girl off, watching her stick her middle finger up in the air before blowing a kiss in her direction and walking off towards the entrance of the large house.
