WARNINGS: depression and mention of a suicide attempt but no detail. If you're struggling with anything my inbox is always open and I'm happy to talk. You are loved, valued, and needed, even if your brain tells you that you aren't.

"Oh honey we're so glad you could make it!" Your mom opened the door with wide arms. "Hey mom." You responded with a smile that barely lifted.

"Drew, sweetheart it's so good to see you!" She pulled your tall boyfriend down into a bone crushing hug. He smiled politely, "you as well Mrs. Y/l/n."

You had a complicated relationship with your family. You struggled with depression growing up, and your family could never fully understand. No matter how much you screamed and cried at them, they just couldn't grasp the concept.

You attempted when you were a junior in high school, you felt like there was no escape from your own mind. This was a wake up call for your family but still, it was an uncomfortable subject of course.

As soon as you turned eighteen and moved away to college you got yourself help. You used the insurance you got with your job to get medication. You had found a light at the end of the tunnel, all by yourself.

When you met Drew it was like everything clicked into place. You found each other when you least expected it which is what made your relationship so special.

You begrudgingly brought him home for the first time, and it was filling you with dread. You hadn't told him everything about your battle with depression but he knew enough. He knew that your family wasn't super supportive so he was happy he could be by your side for the weekend.

"Come on in, dinner is just about finished!" You both placed your bags down before walking into the dining room. Your dad and little brother stood with a greeting smile. "Hey big sis." Your brother pulled you in for a tight hug.

Your bother was younger when you tried to take your life so he didn't fully understand. After he learned what it all meant, he stayed by your side as you recovered. He knew y'alls parents were too stuck in their ways.

"Drew!" Your bother smiled widely and dabbed up your boyfriend. You couldn't help but giggle, your brother adored Drew and it was the sweetest sight. You then said a quick hello to your father before sitting down at the table.

Your mom brought the food in and then took her own seat. Drew placed his hand on your thigh and gently squeezed. You looked sideways at him with a small smile. You placed one of your hands over his in thanks.

Everything was going fine at first, they were asking you and Drew a ton of questions about your lives and jobs. You loved bragging on your boyfriend and it was adorable to see a small blush rise on his cheek at your praises.

You then asked your little brother about how school was and he informed you he was joining the football team. "That's great." You smiled at him across the table.

"He's doing a hell of a lot better than you did." You dad said with a chuckle. Your breath hitched and you clenched your jaw. "Dad..." Your little brother scolded while keeping his eyes on his plate.

You waved your little brother off, telling him not to worry about it. If you didn't give it attention then maybe it would just blow over. Drew furrowed his eyebrows at your fathers statement but bit his tongue.

"What classes are you taking?" You asked your little brother, hoping to move the conversation along. He told you about some of the advanced courses he decided to take. "Yeah y/n never took any of those, she was 'too sad'." Your mom put the words in air quotes.

"Mom." You looked over to her with stern eyes. "Just say what you wanna say mom!" You little brother slammed his fist on the table, making you jump slightly. "Y/n tried to kill herself and neither of you have any fucking compassion!"

Your parents jaws were wide open and they simply stared at your brother. You sat in shock for a moment, and Drews brain was spinning with all of the information he just received.

You hadn't realized tears were falling until Drew grabbed your hand pulling you away. "Which room is yours baby?" He whispered into your ear and he held your waist. You walked up the stairs and guided him in.

You sat down on the bed and stared at your feet. Drew sat down right next to you and wrapped an arm around your shoulder. "Wanna talk about it?" He asked, knowing that you weren't okay.

"I'm sorry they're... it's complicated." You shrugged slightly, leaning your head onto his shoulder. "Don't say sorry y/n/n it's okay." He placed delicate kisses into your hair.

"I never told you because I was scared, my own parents reaction was horrendous... I worried that others would be the same." He nodded in understanding. "That makes sense." You raised your head and locked eyes with him.

"I trust you though, I don't want you to think I don't." You said with a glint of worry in your eyes. "I know you do. All of your worries are valid, and I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I promise you it doesn't make me think any different... you deserve the world."

His words leave his lips and soak into your heart. You reached one hand up and cupped his cheek. "I love you." You whispered as you pushed your face closer to his. "I love you, I'm so lucky to know you."

He closed the distance and pressed his lips to yours. No matter what you went through or what you will go through, Drew was always in your corner. And you were always going to be in his.

"When you're lost in the darkness, look for the light."
